Painstakingly and lovingly restored, recalling that highflying era of gaslights and horse-drawn carriages, black diamonds and Victorian opulence. Built in the 1840's, it has provided comfort to some of the 19th century's most influential and colorful people. It is said General Grant, President Taft, Buffalo Bill, Thomas Edison, and John D. Rockefeller have all passed through these doors.
Originally constructed in 1822 for the town's founder, Whitehurst is the oldest building in Jim Thorpe. Completely renovated in 2004 into a five bedroom guest house, the building now offers guests individual climate control and private baths, three of the rooms have spas and most of them have a private porch.
